Digital Transformation at the EU: from the bottom up and the top down

Forty million monthly users, 400+ websites, 42 departments, and a team of 30 digital transformers. The digital transformation team was tasked with creating a unified user experience for the European Commission. Annie will walk you through some strategic decisions that raised the team from obscurity to a seat with the cabinet of the president in less than two years.

She’ll also provide insights on what it’s like to work with stakeholders from 27 countries, a political institution deeply entrenched in hierarchy and process, and a global audience. To deal with such vast cultural and hierarchical diversity, the team had to work in many different ways: methodical and agile, operational and strategical, a wide scope and a narrow focus. And in the end, reach consensus.

You’ll learn about:

  • Setting up a large-scale transformation program
  • Empowering players at all levels, from the coders to the president
  • Tips for managing disruption using research and testing tactics
  • Translating user needs into a new governance model
